Children practiced in Hervanta โ€“ Then the bubble hall began to collapse

A bubble hall in Tampere collapsed while children were practicing football inside, but everyone managed to evacuate safely before the structure failed completely.

The Jalitsu hall in Hervanta, Tampere, collapsed on Thursday evening during childrenโ€™s football practice. According to Jouni Kaikuranta, the chairman of Tampereen Pallo-Veikot, the roof of the bubble hall started to sag under the weight of accumulated snow while children and coaches were inside. Fortunately, everyone was able to exit the hall before it collapsed entirely, resulting in no injuries.

Kaikuranta mentioned that practices will now have to be moved to other venues, and some sessions may need to be canceled altogether. This hall has been vital for both Tampereen Pallo-Veikot and Ilves, particularly in the cold months of January and February, when outdoor training is less feasible due to freezing temperatures. If the weather warms up, they might manage to use heated artificial turf for training.

This incident marks the second collapse of the Jalitsu hall this winter; it previously collapsed at the end of December due to Storm Hannes, indicating a worrying trend for the facility's safety during harsh weather conditions. The repeated structural failures may prompt a review of maintenance practices and the hall's overall design to prevent future occurrences.
