Truck with oversized load blocks Dutra highway and causes 19 km of slowdown
An oversized load blocked the Dutra highway in Brazil, causing a traffic slowdown of 19 kilometers.
An oversized truck obstructed the Presidente Dutra highway on the afternoon of Thursday, October 26, at kilometer 147 in São José dos Campos, heading towards Rio de Janeiro. The Federal Highway Police reported that traffic had to be halted to allow the oversized load, measuring 89.8 meters in length and weighing approximately 491.8 tons, to safely pass under a viaduct. This operation led to significant traffic congestion, with delays stretching over 19 kilometers.
The oversized load being transported is an 'estator,' which is the stationary part of electric motors and generators, comprised of a ferromagnetic core and copper coils. The transportation of such large equipment requires a detailed operational plan, including the involvement of escort teams and the road management authority, in this case, the RioSP concessionaire overseeing the highway. The presence of escorts ensures adherence to safety protocols, minimizing disruption to regular traffic flows as much as possible.
As of the latest update at 16:00, traffic remained slow in the area as work continued to facilitate the passage of the extraordinary cargo. Authorities emphasized the importance of notifying drivers regarding road conditions and encouraged them to plan for longer travel times due to the delays caused by this exceptional transport operation.
