National Armed Forces Test Remote-Mining Systems

In February, the National Armed Forces successfully tested the remote-mining system 'Scorpion 2' to enhance anti-tank defense solutions in Latvia.

In February, the National Armed Forces of Latvia conducted successful testing of the remote-mining system known as 'Scorpion 2' under field conditions. This initiative aims to improve the country’s anti-tank defense capabilities and bolster its deterrent capacity. The tests were reported by the National Armed Forces’ Joint Staff, informing that the new capability would enable rapid and mobile setup of anti-tank minefields, thereby restricting and delaying the movement of enemy armored vehicles.

The development of distance mining capabilities in Latvia is taking place gradually, with the first systems planned for delivery later this year. This integration will commence practical unit training and include these capabilities in the operational plans of the National Armed Forces. The implementation of such advanced systems is seen as crucial for strengthening national defense, allowing for enhanced survival rates of military units in combat situations.

The testing was conducted under a previously signed contract by the Ministry of Defence and the State Defense Logistics and Procurement Center regarding the acquisition of the remote-mining system. This development represents a significant step in modernizing Latvia’s military assets in response to evolving threats in the region, especially concerning armored threats.
