The Global Solidarity Fleet Announces Departure Again Towards Gaza in April
The Global Solidarity Fleet has announced its intention to set sail for the Gaza Strip on April 12, aiming to break the blockade and deliver humanitarian aid.
The Global Solidarity Fleet management announced on Thursday its plan to resume sailing towards the Gaza Strip beginning April 12, as part of an international civil initiative aimed at breaking the blockade imposed on the region and establishing a humanitarian corridor for aid delivery. This announcement was made during a press conference held in Istanbul, where Dilek Tekgüç read a statement on behalf of the fleet's management, emphasizing that this new initiative comes in response to what they describe as a "humanitarian disaster" and a "systematic genocide."
The fleet is expected to sail from Spain, involving thousands of supporters from over 150 countries, with more than 100 ships and boats participating, making it one of the largest civilian maritime movements to support Gaza. Tekgüç highlighted the ongoing blockade, the closure of crossings, the prevention of aid from entering, and targeted attacks on health infrastructure as a systematic policy that undermines Palestinians' right to life. Despite 132 days having passed since the ceasefire was announced, she argued that the currently perceived calm is merely a "hermetic silence."
This upcoming departure symbolizes not only a renewed commitment to advocating for the rights of Palestinians, but also reflects increasing international attention and involvement in the humanitarian crisis. As the Global Solidarity Fleet moves forward with its plans, it serves as a powerful reminder of the global community's responsibility in addressing the dire situations faced by marginalized groups, especially amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.
