Samba Gathering 'The Way It Was Before' Reaches Its 3rd Edition and Supports the Batucando Esperança Institute
The samba gathering 'The Way It Was Before' is returning for its third edition, aiming to support the Batucando Esperança Institute and celebrate traditional samba music in São Luís, Brazil.
The samba gathering 'Do Jeito Que Era Antes' is set to celebrate its third edition on March 14 at the Espaço San Martins in São Luís, Brazil. This event brings together musicians, enthusiasts, and whole communities to appreciate traditional samba music, characterized by its signature hand clapping and iconic instruments like the pandeiro. Marlon Reis, the event's creator and a performer himself, aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage of samba, ensuring its survival through generations.
This year, the event emphasizes its social mission, with all proceeds going to the Batucando Esperança Institute, which supports nearly 100 children and teenagers from the Vila Palmeira area and surrounding neighborhoods. The gathering features notable local artists including Luzian Filho, Kayro Costa, Jorginho Du Pan, Tássia Campos, and DJ Pedro DreadLock, who will perform classic samba tracks, contributing to the event's goal of fostering a sense of community and connection through music.
Marlon Reis states that the gathering is not just about music but about bringing people together to experience the authentic samba culture as it was traditionally passed down from previous generations. The initiative serves both as an entertainment platform and as a way to give back to the local community, reinforcing the importance of cultural remembrance and social responsibility in today’s society.
