The Museum of Image and Sound of Mato Grosso do Sul opens the exhibition "Photography and Memory" honoring photographer Rachid Waqued, celebrating the region's history and marking the 50th anniversary of the state's creation.

The Museum of Image and Sound of Mato Grosso do Sul (MIS-MS) is set to reopen on Thursday, the 26th, at 7 PM, with the inauguration of the exhibition "Photography and Memory." This exhibition pays tribute to the renowned photographer Rachid Waqued, who has played a pivotal role in documenting the cultural and historical narratives of Mato Grosso do Sul. Admission to the exhibition is free, and it is open for visits until April 30. Through this exhibition, attendees will engage with the rich visuals that reflect the identity and legacy of the region.

The event marks the beginning of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the creation of Mato Grosso do Sul, which is scheduled for 2027. The exhibition is also part of the "Rota Cine MS" project initiated by the Cultural Foundation of Mato Grosso do Sul (FCMS), aimed at enhancing audiovisual initiatives and democratizing access to culture. Eduardo Mendes Pinto, the president-director of FCMS, emphasized the exhibition's role in recognizing the significance of photography in shaping the memory and identity of the region. This acknowledgment highlights the commitment to preserving and promoting the region's cultural heritage.

With curation by Melly Senna, Cris Freire, Ligia Rocha, and Pedro Ort, the exhibition showcases a variety of works that encapsulate the essence of Mato Grosso do Sul's history through the lens of Waqued and other photographers. Thus, the MIS not only serves as a cultural hub but also as a vital contributor to the ongoing dialogue about the importance of visual arts in the collective memory of the community. This opening is anticipated to attract both locals and visitors, enhancing cultural engagement and appreciation of the region's history through photography.
