Heavy rain with gusts of wind causes flooding and leaves displaced people in Nova Campina

Heavy rain and wind gusts have caused flooding and displaced residents in Nova Campina, Brazil.

On Wednesday, the 25th, a severe rainstorm accompanied by strong wind gusts led to significant flooding in Nova Campina, a city in the interior of São Paulo state. Reports indicate that the rainfall accumulation reached up to 60 millimeters in a short time, with the downtown area being the most affected. Local authorities have expressed concern over the flooding situation due to the city's topography, which places the central region in a lower area, exacerbating the flooding problems.

The São Paulo State Civil Defense reported flooding incidents in various neighborhoods including Tijuca, Vila Trancho, and the central area. One particular incident on João Cavalheiro street resulted in damage to a residence, forcing at least one resident to find shelter with family members. Despite the significant flooding, the municipal administration has reported no casualties, which is a somewhat positive outcome amidst the chaos.

Cleanup and recovery efforts are currently underway. The municipal Protection and Civil Defense Coordination has been conducting technical inspections to assess damage and ensure that displaced residents receive adequate assistance. With unpredictable weather patterns becoming more common, this event highlights the ongoing challenges of urban planning and infrastructure resilience in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall and flooding.
