Changes in Gargždai center for a third of a million: there will be a mandatory route to the seaside
Gargždai is set to undergo significant transformation with a new project worth over 336,000 euros focused on revitalizing the market area and creating better connectivity to the seaside.
The municipality of Klaipėda has announced the initiation of a major project in the center of Gargždai, which aims to enhance the local market and improve access to the seaside. A contract worth 336.4 thousand euros has been signed with the architectural firm 'Bauland', which won a competition with their innovative proposal for the town square and market. The project's vision emphasizes the importance of maintaining a vibrant and authentic market, asserting that a city's essence begins at such communal hubs.
The project's timeline outlines that the design phase, along with the required permits for construction, is expected to be completed within 14 months. Following this, the municipality plans to commence construction activities in the market area by 2027. This project not only addresses urban development but also seeks to integrate the historic market with modern urban design principles, ensuring that the character and significance of the market are preserved.
Moreover, this initiative is part of a broader effort by the Klaipėda municipality to enhance local infrastructure and promote tourism by making it easier to access the seaside. By establishing a mandatory route to the coast, the local government aims to increase foot traffic in the area and support local businesses, fostering a thriving economic environment while retaining community identity and tradition.
