R. Kaunas: if the coalition cannot make decisions - a question arises as to whether it is needed

R. Kaunas emphasized the necessity of a united coalition for making important decisions in Lithuania and questioned the existence of a coalition that cannot act decisively.

In a recent press conference at the Ministry of National Defense, Lithuanian Vice Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, R. Kaunas, highlighted the importance of a cohesive coalition that can uniformly make difficult decisions for the benefit of the country. He stated that a coalition must be capable of making tough and sometimes unpopular choices that are vital for Lithuania's interests. Kaunas expressed concern about the skepticism from some members of the ruling coalition regarding the establishment of a new military training area in Lazdijai Region, emphasizing that such indecision brings into question the coalition's necessity.

Kaunas reassured that the Ministry of National Defense is actively engaging with members of the Seimas (Parliament) and providing answers to the concerns raised about the new military training territory, specifically addressing issues related to the Kapčiamiesčio polygon. He reiterated the critical aspects of this military initiative which aims to enhance Lithuania's defense capabilities and preparedness amidst a challenging security environment. By fostering better communication and understanding within the coalition, Kaunas aims to strengthen the government's resolve and unity.

The remarks made by R. Kaunas reflect a broader tension within the Lithuanian political landscape, where divisions within the governing majority can hinder decision-making processes. As Lithuania navigates complex security issues, the call for solidarity and effective governance becomes even more pressing, underscoring the necessity for coalitions to be functional and purposeful. This situation raises significant questions regarding political stability and the capacity of the current government to address key national security concerns effectively.
