Pikkulaskiainen, Finland's largest student event, unfolds in Turku, with a remarkable 12,750 tickets sold, indicating strong interest from students across the country, including those traveling from as far as Rovaniemi. The event, organized for the first time to encompass the entire Turku market square, is a celebration that highlights the active student culture in Finland.
Structured around a variety of activities, the event kicks off with a sledding competition at 1 PM in the city center, followed by live performances from popular artists like Eveliina, Cledos, and Ares on the market square stage. The festivities will extend into the evening at Logomo and various bars in Turku, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere for participants and local residents alike.
Kaarlo Noponen, the main producer of Pikkulaskiainen, emphasizes the event's adaptability as a key reason for its continued allure among students. This year marks a significant milestone as the event completely closes off the Turku market square, forcing local market vendors to relocate for the day, showcasing the substantial impact Pikkulaskiainen has on the city's commercial landscape during the festival.
