Hellas Sat has marked the beginning of a new era in satellite communications for Greece and Cyprus by launching the first geostationary satellite using advanced high-speed optical laser telecommunications technology. This innovation aims to enhance communication capabilities across various sectors, ranging from telecommunications to defense. The deployment of this technology signifies a significant leap forward in the region's communication infrastructure, allowing for peak data transmission rates that were previously unattainable.

To facilitate this advancement, Hellas Sat is forging strategic partnerships with key players in the European space sector, namely Thales Alenia Space, Safran Data Systems, and the French Space Agency (CNES). The signing of a framework agreement aims to lay the groundwork for the study, design, and future hosting of optical telecommunications on the Hellas Sat 5 satellite. This ambitious collaboration underscores the commitment of these organizations to push the boundaries of satellite communication technology and improve connectivity in the region.

The partnerships were announced during the international conference "Battlefield ReDEFiNED 2026" held in Nicosia, Cyprus, which is attended by government and military officials, institutional stakeholders, and leading technology organizations.
