Domestic Workers, Caregivers, and Babysitters: End of Paper Contribution Slips. How to Pay

Italy is transitioning to a digital system for paying contributions for domestic workers, eliminating the need for paper slips traditionally used by employers.

In a move towards modernization, the Italian National Social Security Institute (Inps) has announced the phasing out of paper payment models for contributions related to domestic workers, including housekeepers, caregivers, and babysitters. This is part of a broader initiative to digitize services for families acting as domestic employers, making it easier and more efficient for them to manage contributions via digital platforms.

Starting this year, employers under the age of 76 will no longer receive paper contribution slips, transitioning instead to an integrated system utilizing pagoPA, Italy's national payment platform for public administration services. This shift is aimed at streamlining the payment process and reducing paperwork, while also signifying the Italian government's commitment to digital innovations that improve public service accessibility.

For the current year, exceptions are made for employers aged 76 and older, who will continue to receive their annual letters to ease their transition to the new online system. This gradual phase-out reflects a thoughtful approach to ensure that senior citizens are not left behind as Italy embraces a more advanced, digitally-focused administrative framework.
