Second blow to the Santa Rosa Cartel in Guanajuato: More than 55 thousand liters of ‘huachicol’ seized

Authorities in Guanajuato have dealt another blow to the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel by seizing over 55,000 liters of illegal hydrocarbons, along with weapons and stolen goods.

Authorities in Guanajuato announced a significant operation targeting the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, resulting in the seizure of over 55,000 liters of illicit hydrocarbons stored in local properties. The operation, regarded as the second in a series of strikes against the cartel, was executed in communities recognized as key operational centers for the group, namely San Antonio de los Morales and Santa Rosa de Lima in Villagrán. This raid highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to dismantle organized crime in the region.

In the operation which took place on February 25, 2023, security forces were tipped off by a citizen's complaint leading them to locate interconnected properties utilized by the cartel. Alongside the substantial quantity of illegal fuel, authorities also confiscated long firearms, vehicles, and other potentially stolen merchandise. This action reflects the increasing pressure on criminal organizations in Guanajuato, which has been plagued by violence and illegal activities tied to fuel theft.

The implications of this operation are far-reaching, as it underscores the effectiveness of community involvement in law enforcement and the continued dedication of the Guanajuato government's security forces. As authorities heighten their crackdown on cartel operations, there is hope that such measures will lead to a decrease in organized crime and enhance public safety in the state, which has experienced significant turmoil due to cartel violence in recent years.
