Blow to the Chiapas-Guatemala Cartel Leaves 12 Arrested, Drugs and Weapons Seized

Twelve individuals linked to the Chiapas-Guatemala Cartel were arrested for illegal possession of weapons and narcotics in Cintalapa, Chiapas.

The Chiapas State Secretariat of Public Security reported the arrest of 12 individuals associated with the Chiapas-Guatemala Cartel during an operation on February 14. The operation involved the National Defense, National Guard, and State Guard forces, who acted on intelligence about a group of alleged drug dealers in the municipal seat of Cintalapa. Law enforcement successfully located and apprehended the suspects, who were found in possession of firearms and suspected drugs.

Authorities revealed that among the seized items were a homemade rifle of .22 caliber, a homemade rifle of .410 caliber, a homemade pistol of .22 caliber, and 13 useful cartridges. Additionally, 59 bags containing various suspected narcotics were confiscated during the operation. The action reflects ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat organized crime and drug trafficking activities in the region, particularly in the context of the Chiapas-Guatemala border, which is known for such illicit activities.
