A major controversy has erupted in Punjab's Gurdaspur district following the death of 19-year-old Ranjit Singh in a police encounter. According to reports, Ranjit, the only son of his family, was allegedly taken from his home around 4 PM before being killed in an encounter linked to the murder of two Punjab policemen at a checkpoint in the Dorangla sector of Gurdaspur.
