Cuba claims that 10 terrorists were aboard the attacked boat as outrage grows in the United States

Cuba accuses a group allegedly composed of U.S. residents of attempting to infiltrate the island for terrorist activities following an armed engagement at sea.

A recent incident on the Cuban coast has escalated tensions between Cuba and the United States, as Cuban officials report that a fast boat was intercepted carrying ten armed individuals with alleged terrorist intentions. According to the Cuban Ministry of Interior, these individuals planned to infiltrate the island, leading to a confrontation with Cuban border guards that resulted in the deaths of four crew members and injuries to others, including a Cuban commander.

Cuban authorities further asserted that they seized a significant cache of weapons from the boat, including assault rifles, handguns, Molotov cocktails, bulletproof vests, telescopic sights, and camouflage uniforms. They claimed that all individuals involved were Cuban citizens residing in the United States and had previous criminal records associated with violent activities. Furthermore, Cuban security forces indicated that they had detained a suspected accomplice on the island.

The story has garnered considerable attention from U.S. media outlets, particularly The New York Times, which mentioned a fleet of boats arriving from Florida. The incident is likely to exacerbate already strained relations between the two countries, raising concerns about the potential for a diplomatic crisis stemming from alleged terrorist threats and the actions taken by Cuban forces in response to perceived threats to national security.
