[Breaking News] Kim Byung-ki's First Appearance Before the Police... 13 Allegations Including Campaign Bribery
Independent lawmaker Kim Byung-ki, embroiled in 13 various allegations including illegal political funding, appeared before the police for the first time as a suspect on the 26th of the month.
On the 26th of this month, independent lawmaker Kim Byung-ki, formerly of the Democratic Party of Korea, appeared at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency as a suspect, surrounded by 13 different allegations ranging from illegal political funds to employment solicitation for his son. During his appearance at around 9 am, Kim expressed regret for being in this situation and stated his intention to cooperate fully with the investigation to clear his name and restore his honor. He insisted on being thorough in addressing all the accusations and insinuations made against him.
When pressed by reporters about whether he denies all of the allegations, Kim took a measured response, stating he would engage sincerely with the investigation. However, he refrained from providing specifics, such as whether the contents of a safe reportedly found in his son's residence was related to the case. Furthermore, when questioned about whether he received money in exchange for political endorsements or exercised any privileges related to arrest, Kim opted not to comment on these sensitive issues and entered the police hall.
The allegations against Kim also include the acceptance of illegal political contributions, seeking job favors for his son, and receiving benefits such as hotel accommodation vouchers from Korean Air. The police have planned to question him further on the 27th to comprehensively understand his stance regarding the allegations presented against him. This case highlights the ongoing issues of political misconduct within South Korea and raises questions about accountability among public officials.
