In a recent ruling by the Delta State High Court in Orerokpe, Collins Ika, a 55-year-old man, was sentenced to 60 years of imprisonment for the rape of an 11-year-old girl under his care. The court found that the offenses took place between 2021 and 2022, highlighting the ongoing issue of child sexual abuse in the region. The trial judge, Justice Joe Egwu, emphasized the severity of the crime and the need for justice for the victim.

Alongside the prison sentence, Justice Egwu ordered Ika to pay a compensation of N50 million to the victim, reflecting the court's commitment to addressing the harm caused by such heinous acts. The prosecution, led by Miss Phoebian Onomakpome from the Delta State Ministry of Justice, presented evidence including the victim's testimony, which revealed that Ika had repeatedly assaulted her and had used threats to silence her from disclosing the abuse.

The court also mandated the forfeiture of N111,000, which Ika had attempted to use as a bribe to settle the matter outside of the court.
