Ancestral Batuque is the champion of the Natal Carnival

Ancestral Batuque has won the title of champion at the Natal Carnival for the first time in its history.

Batuque Ancestral has emerged victorious in the 2023 Natal Carnival, marking the school's first title since its establishment. The official announcement was made during the results reveal held at the headquarters of the Fundação Capitania das Artes (Funcarte) on Wednesday, where the samba school was awarded a cash prize of R$ 60,000. This victory is particularly significant as the school had moved up from Group B to the main group last year, showcasing its progression and growing reputation in the local samba community.

The event featured a competitive lineup, with Batuque Ancestral taking the top spot followed by Império do Vale and Aguia Dourada securing second and third places, respectively. The financial rewards were apportioned effectively, with R$ 45,000 for the second place and R$ 30,000 for the third, incentivizing schools to enhance their performances in future competitions. Notably, the illustrious Malandros do Samba, the most successful school in history with 57 titles, faced disqualification due to a costume issue, resulting in its relegation to Group B after a series of championship wins, indicating the unpredictability and high-stakes nature of samba competitions.

In a parallel development within Group B, Imperatriz Alecrinense clinched victory and received R$ 45,000, while Grande Rio do Norte and another school rounded out the top spots receiving R$ 30,000 and R$ 15,000 respectively. The outcomes of these competitions reflect the vibrant cultural landscape of samba in Brazil, where local schools vie fiercely for prestige and recognition, further enriching the heritage of Carnival.
