A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Campo Limpo Paulista, Brazil, for the shooting death of a 26-year-old man five months prior.
A 38-year-old suspect was arrested in Campo Limpo Paulista, São Paulo, on Wednesday, five months after allegedly murdering a 26-year-old man named Mateus Dias do Nascimento. The arrest was conducted by agents from the General Investigation Department (DIG) of Jundiaí during an operation in the Jardim Santa Maria neighborhood. The police reportedly went to three addresses on the same street before locating the suspect in the third property, where they seized three cell phones during the operation.
The victim, Mateus Dias do Nascimento, was found dead with gunshot wounds in a wooded area along Estrada das Palmeiras in September 2025. Following the discovery, the victim was positively identified by his aunt. The circumstances surrounding his death prompted a thorough investigation, leading to the eventual arrest of the suspect, who had been at large since the incident. A forensic examination was performed at the crime scene before the body was sent to the Medical Institute for further investigation.
The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Brazil to address gun violence and ensure justice for victims of homicide. The case has drawn attention to issues regarding public safety and effectiveness of criminal investigations in the region, as police continue to contend with rising crime rates and the challenges posed by organized crime.
