HU da Unifap recruits volunteers for study on natural treatment for knee osteoarthritis

The University Hospital of the Federal University of Amapá is recruiting volunteers for a study on natural treatment options for knee osteoarthritis, comparing the use of ultrasound with rosemary oil against traditional gel.

The University Hospital of the Federal University of Amapá (Unifap) has opened registrations for volunteers to participate in a significant study aimed at exploring new methods for treating osteoarthritis in the knee. This research, part of the Oasis project, focuses on comparing the effectiveness of ultrasound combined with rosemary oil against the standard treatment method which employs a common gel. The central goal of the study is to assess which of these options could provide better relief for patients suffering from this condition.

This initiative has promising implications, especially for the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), Brazil's public health system, as it seeks to find a more cost-effective and natural alternative for patients dealing with knee osteoarthritis. Project coordinator Alan Coutinho emphasizes the significance of this research, highlighting that it combines care with innovation. He notes that the current phase, marked by volunteer recruitment, holds scientific rigor and emphasizes results related to pain reduction and improved mobility for the participants.

Participants eligible for this study must be at least 18 years old, and as the research progresses, it aims not only to enhance treatment methods for osteoarthritis but also to contribute to public health solutions that are both effective and economically viable for the Brazilian healthcare system. Through this project, the hospital hopes to pioneer a shift in how knee osteoarthritis is treated, promoting a more holistic and patient-friendly approach to healthcare.
