Gloomy and Shocking Images: For the First Time Captured from Space, How Russia Bombards Kyiv
Images captured from space reveal intense flashes illuminating Kyiv as Russia conducts a large-scale attack using cruise and ballistic missiles.
On the nights of December 26-27, 2025, satellite footage documented bright flashes in the skies over Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, coinciding with a significant military offensive by Russia utilizing cruise missiles, particularly the 'Kh-101', and ballistic 'Iskander' missiles. This specific video, captured from space, highlighted the simultaneous explosions and flashes generated by Ukrainian air defense systems intercepting incoming projectiles in the atmosphere.
Enthusiast Riccardo Rossi, who processed and analyzed the orbital video, remarked on the unusual visibility of these light patterns from space. He noted that such intense light shows, as observed around Kyiv, have not been documented previously. Compared to natural phenomena like lightning or meteors, these flashes appeared clearly artificial and were part of ongoing military operations.
While astronauts often photograph earthly phenomena such as city lights and atmospheric events from hundreds of kilometers above, the distinctiveness of the flashes over Kyiv stands out. Unlike sporadic lightning, which is distributed across the clouds, the flashes captured were much more consistent and intense, indicating the severity of the ongoing conflict and its visibility not only from the ground but now also from space.
