PT defends voting in the Chamber on a project that regulates extra payments and high salaries
The Brazilian Workers' Party (PT) plans to request the Chamber of Deputies to vote on a bill regulating high salaries and additional payments amid a Supreme Court push for legislative regulation.
The Brazilian Workers' Party (PT) is set to present a request on Thursday for the Chamber of Deputies to vote on a bill that aims to regulate the payment of high salaries and additional benefits, known in Brazil as 'penduricalhos'. This initiative comes in response to a recent Supreme Court ruling which mandated the need for clear legislative guidelines on the matter. PT leader Pedro Uczai from Santa Catarina stated that they will bring this proposal to the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta, during a leadership meeting scheduled for that day.
Uczai emphasized the urgency of voting on an existing proposal co-signed by Lindbergh Farias and 66 other members of the PT. He mentioned the necessity of reviewing the current ceiling for public sector salaries, which stands at 46,300 BRL β the salary level of Supreme Court ministers. The discussion aims to restrict additional payments that exceed the legal salary cap, ensuring compliance and fairness within the public sector remuneration framework.
The PT views this request for an urgent vote as a party initiative and not a governmental action. This legislative move reflects the party's commitment both to reforming compensation within federal institutions and adhering to recent judicial directives. The pending discussions could signal significant changes in public sector salary structures if the proposed regulations are enacted, directly impacting the fiscal policy landscape in Brazil and public perceptions of government accountability.
