Attorney General: I have no information about interference in the investigation related to Skvernelis
The Attorney General of Lithuania stated that she has no information regarding any interference in the investigation concerning politician Skvernelis.
In a recent statement, Lithuania's Attorney General Neringa Grunskienė addressed concerns about potential interference in an ongoing investigation involving politician Saulius Skvernelis. She emphasized that she has no information suggesting any links or hindrances relating to the inquiry, dismissing any connections as unfounded. This statement comes in the wake of an event where notable law enforcement figures met on the same day that the prosecution decided to question Skvernelis as a special witness.
Additional reports by BNS highlighted that the Director of the Special Investigation Service (STT), Linas Pernavas, attended a gathering of former police generals alongside Skvernelis on February 5, coinciding with the prosecution's decision to interrogate the politician. However, Pernavas clarified that he maintains his professional integrity is unaffected by personal relationships, reiterating his commitment to the confidentiality and integrity of ongoing investigations. He remarked that discussions regarding the investigation and any procedural actions are not being commented on publicly.
The Attorney General's remarks and the STT director's assurances are crucial at a time when scrutiny of political figures is high, particularly regarding the integrity of law enforcement processes in Lithuania. The nature of the investigation and the relationships among its subjects underscore the delicate balance of personal connections and professional duties within the realm of public service in the country.
