Bærum made 900 million kroner in profit last year
The municipality of Bærum recorded a surplus of 907 million kroner in 2025, contrary to previous forecasts of financial crisis.
In a surprising turn of events, the municipality of Bærum reported a surplus of 907 million kroner for the year 2025, despite earlier warnings of impending financial crises. According to reports from Budstikka, the municipal director attributes this unexpected financial boost to higher-than-anticipated earnings coupled with the swift impact of restructuring measures implemented by the municipality. In a press release, municipal director Torge Railo emphasized that the municipality is ahead of schedule in its restructuring efforts.
Notably, essential services including nursing homes and schools managed to spend 275 million kroner less than initially budgeted, contributing significantly to the surplus. Although the financial outcome is positive, local politicians and Railo have stressed the necessity to continue the restructuring processes. They highlight the importance of adapting to a persistently lower level of income while ensuring a sustainable economic future for the municipality.
This financial performance may offer a breather for Bærum’s local government in the short term; however, the ongoing emphasis on efficiency and adaptability signals a cautious approach to managing future economic uncertainties. The administration’s focus on maintaining fiscal discipline amidst economic recovery will be crucial moving forward, particularly in light of the challenges posed by lower revenue levels that might persist in the coming years.
