Smoke development in truck closed the Oslofjord Tunnel

The Oslofjord Tunnel reopened after being closed due to smoke originating from a truck, which was later identified as water vapor.

The Oslofjord Tunnel was temporarily closed due to smoke from a truck, prompting traffic disruptions for travelers. Just before 5 PM, authorities closed the tunnel, and it remained shut until around 7:30 PM. During the closure, alternative routes were suggested, including through Oslo or via the Moss-Horten ferry service.

Emergency responders quickly assessed the situation, confirming that there was no fire involved; the smoke was generated from water vapor, alleviating concerns about a potential fire hazard. Traffic operator Vegard Halvorsen specified that the truck was situated approximately 300 meters from the exit on the Drammen side of the tunnel, contributing to the decision to close the tunnel for safety measures.

In addition to the incident, it was announced that the tunnel would undergo planned closures at night for road work, indicating ongoing traffic management efforts in the region. This episode underscores the challenges associated with managing traffic and safety in infrastructure like the Oslofjord Tunnel, vital for facilitating travel between regions in Norway.
