PRF arrests men and recovers stolen cargo vehicle parts on BR-251

Two men were arrested and electronic modules stolen from cargo vehicles were recovered on BR-251 in Montes Claros.

On Tuesday, two men were arrested by the Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF) for their involvement in the theft of electronic modules from cargo vehicles on BR-251 near Montes Claros. The arrest followed an operation initiated by the PRF and the Military Police, based on intelligence reports linking a vehicle to thefts that occurred in the nearby towns of Salinas and Porteirinha. The vehicle was tracked down and stopped at kilometer 514 of BR-251.

The PRF disclosed that the recovered equipment plays a crucial role in managing essential functions of trucks, including engine control, injection systems, ABS brakes, and gear systems. The theft of these components causes significant financial and operational losses to the cargo transport sector, highlighting the broader issue of vehicle-related crimes in the region. The operation underscores the effectiveness of collaboration between police intelligence sectors in combating theft.

During the police inspection, authorities discovered tools, mobile phones, and clothing items that matched the descriptions captured by security cameras at the crime scenes. The ages of the suspects were reported to be 23 and 24 years. This incident not only showcases law enforcement's challenges in tackling organized theft but also signals ongoing security concerns for businesses relying on transportation infrastructure in Brazil's Minas Gerais state.
