The Hen Harrier Escaped the Rescue Service in the Prisma Parking Hall
A hen harrier that had been trapped in a parking garage in Kuopio eluded rescue efforts by local authorities.
Emergency services in Kuopio, Finland, responded to a call regarding a hen harrier that had become trapped in the Prisma parking garage. This bird had reportedly spent several days inside the multi-level structure, where customers had first noticed its presence. Some even believed that the bird had escaped earlier, but it was confirmed that it was still within the parking facility during the rescue attempts.
Mikko Vihtola, a chief officer at the North Savo rescue service, shared his theory about how the hen harrier ended up in the parking garage. According to him, the bird likely entered the garage while pursuing prey, and then struggled to navigate its way back down through the multiple levels. Vihtola pointed out that it's not instinctual for birds like the hen harrier to fly downwards when trapped in such spaces.
On Wednesday afternoon, following a report from a customer who heard the bird's calls, the rescue team returned to the garage in another attempt to capture the bird. However, despite their efforts, the hen harrier continued to evade capture, illustrating the challenges that can arise when dealing with wildlife in urban settings and the adaptability of these animals in confined spaces.
