Sharp criticism against Blood Pressure Doctor – regions urged to pause payments

The Swedish digital healthcare company Blodtrycksdoktorn faces severe criticism for inadequate patient record-keeping, prompting Region Sörmland to recommend halting payment to the firm until they address these issues.

Blodtrycksdoktorn, a digital healthcare company based in Nyköping, Sweden, has come under fire after a review of 170 patient records revealed that 98% of the medical documentation was subpar. This alarming statistic has raised concerns about the quality of care that the company provides to its patients, particularly those with obesity and high blood pressure, which are their areas of focus. The scrutiny comes from an external auditing firm that was commissioned by Region Sörmland, highlighting systemic issues that may affect patient outcomes.

Following the findings, Region Sörmland has recommended that all Swedish regions pause their payments to Blodtrycksdoktorn until the company addresses the concerns raised. Mats Henningsson, a representative of the region, indicated that further actions, such as penalties or reclaiming payments, may be considered once Blodtrycksdoktorn provides its response to the criticism. This has created uncertainty for the company, which primarily bills patients' home regions for services rendered.

Patients who have received bills from Blodtrycksdoktorn are advised to pay them to avoid jeopardizing their financial standing, as failure to do so could result in debt collection actions. This situation illustrates the tensions between innovative digital health solutions and the critical need for quality assurance in healthcare, as regions grapple with the implications of these findings for both patient care and public trust in digital health services.
