Alert about a rise in the Río de la Plata: could reach more than 3 meters in height

The Naval Hydrographic Service has warned of adverse weather conditions leading to a significant rise in the Río de la Plata, threatening local activities in Buenos Aires and surrounding areas.

The Servicio de Hidrografía Naval (Naval Hydrographic Service) in Argentina has issued a warning regarding dangerous weather conditions resulting from recent heavy rains, strong storms, and intense gusts of wind affecting Buenos Aires and its metropolitan area. These meteorological conditions are expected to disrupt normal daily activities, with the potential for significant flooding in various localities along the Río de la Plata.

According to reports from the Centro de Prevención de Crecidas (Flood Prevention Center), water levels in the Río de la Plata are projected to exceed three meters shortly after 1 PM. This increase represents several centimeters above the standard normal levels historically recorded for the river. Such a rise poses a risk not only to the surrounding communities but also to the infrastructure that is situated near the riverbanks.

The Naval Hydrographic Service has specified that the heights in certain key areas, such as the Port of La Plata and the Port of Buenos Aires, could reach up to 3.10 meters and similar alarming levels. Residents, local officials, and businesses have been advised to prepare for potential flooding and to follow the recommendations laid out by authorities in order to ensure safety and minimize disruption during this weather event.
