Transporters have been waiting for four months for compensation for commercial discounts; the ATD promises them after March 6
Transport companies in Latvia have been awaiting government compensation for commercial discounts for four months, with promises from the authorities to resolve the matter soon.
Transport companies in Latvia, including 'Lux Express Latvija', 'Liepājas autobusu parks', and 'Daugavpils autobusu parks', have been waiting for government compensation relating to discounts applied during commercial services since the law was amended last October. At that time, the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Transport, Andulis Židkovs, indicated that compensation measures could be implemented rapidly once legislative changes were enacted. Despite the adoption of necessary amendments specifying transitional regulations, the government has yet to disburse any funds to the transporters.
Currently, 'Liepājas autobusu parks' and 'Daugavpils autobusu parks' have submitted comprehensive data to the ATD, while 'Lux Express Latvija' is struggling to provide the requested additional information related to the transported passengers. The delays have left transport leaders, such as Aldis Ķibēns of 'Lux Express', frustrated, indicating a serious lack of accountability within the ATD. There is a sentiment that after the issuance of the new regulations in December, the expectation was for an immediate response from the government regarding the compensation, which has not materialized, leading to significant discontent among local transport companies.
The continued delay in compensation payments not only affects the financial stability of the transport companies but also raises concerns about the effectiveness of government operations in support of the sector. Transporters are eager for the authorities to honor their commitments and act promptly to resolve these financial challenges, especially as they contribute significantly to public transportation and the economy.
