The Public Ministry of Amazonas (MPAM) has initiated an investigation regarding inadequate river transport for students in the rural zone of Guajará, Amazonas. This investigation was prompted by oversight of river transport services utilized by students from the Escola Estadual Três de Julho, located in the community of Velho Julho. Reports indicate that the transport service has significant flaws, which not only endangers the safety of children and adolescents but also adversely impacts their school attendance.

The Justice Promoter for the Guajará region, Ney Costa Alcântara de Oliveira Filho, emphasized the critical nature of reliable river transport for isolated communities in the region. He indicated that without appropriate and regular boat services, children are essentially barred from attending school, thus interfering with their constitutional rights to education. The ongoing inquiry aims to scrutinize whether the educational transport is operating safely and consistently, as guaranteed by law.

This investigation highlights the broader implications of inadequate facilities for education in remote areas, especially in regions solely reliant on river transport.
