The scandal with Brazilian beef. Poland knew for a long time, but remained silent

Poland has been aware of contaminated Brazilian beef containing banned growth hormones but has chosen to remain silent, putting consumers at risk.

Poland is known for its high-quality beef, which is respected and exported to various countries. However, there is a troubling situation unfolding in Europe regarding contaminated Brazilian beef that has been found with banned growth hormones, specifically estradiol. Despite knowing about these concerns, member states, including Poland, have not acted effectively to address the issue, leaving consumers largely unaware of the health risks they may face when consuming such meat.

On November 11, 2025, Polish sanitary authorities received a report from the European Commission regarding the detection of unauthorized hormonal substances in Brazilian beef. In response, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assured the public that all meat and food available on the Polish market are subject to continuous monitoring by the responsible food safety services. These monitoring efforts include both routine checks and rapid responses to verify any concerning signals related to food safety.

The Polish government maintains that consumer safety is a priority, and inspections are ongoing. However, the lack of transparency regarding the potential risks posed by contaminated beef raises serious ethical questions about the extent to which these authorities are protecting public health. As the situation develops, consumers are urged to remain informed and vigilant about the source of their beef and possible health implications associated with imported food products.
