Suspect of being part of the largest cargo theft gang in Cubatão is arrested after investigations
Nivaldo Santos Domingues has been arrested for his involvement in a major cargo theft gang operating in the Baixada Santista region of São Paulo, Brazil.
Nivaldo Santos Domingues, aged 43, was arrested for being a member of a specialized gang in cargo theft in the Baixada Santista, a coastal area in São Paulo. He is one of five identified members of this criminal organization, as stated by the Civil Police, which considers it to be the largest cargo theft gang operating within the industrial hub of Cubatão. Following thorough investigations conducted by the Cubatão police station, three members have been arrested, while two remain at large with arrest warrants issued by the judiciary.
Previously, Nivaldo was detained in October 2025 for being in possession of a truck used in one of the gang's cargo thefts, yet he was later released on bail. With a temporary arrest warrant issued against him, he has now been taken back into custody as of Monday, October 23, after being located by police in the port area of Santos. The police believe that dismantling this gang is crucial in combating the organized crime that has been affecting the region, which has significant implications for local businesses and the safety of cargo transport in the area.
The extensive investigations and recent arrests are indicative of increased efforts by law enforcement to address cargo theft crimes that endanger the logistical operations in Brazil, particularly in areas like Baixada Santista, where such crimes have reportedly risen. The ongoing manhunt for the remaining fugitives highlights the challenges that authorities face in tackling organized crime, and the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in addressing these issues.
