Oyo approves counterpart funding for road maintenance, procures 100 vehicles

The Oyo State Government has allocated ₦900 million for road construction funding, allowing the access of over ₦16 billion from international donors.

The Oyo State Government has recently approved ₦900,000,000 as counterpart funding to facilitate road construction across the state, covering a total stretch of 68 kilometers. This funding is crucial as it allows the state to secure additional financing of ₦16,273,711,000 from international financial institutions such as the International Development Association and L’Agence Française de Développement. The announcement was made by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, following an executive council meeting, indicating a commitment to improving infrastructure within the state.

The planned road maintenance works are extensive and will include the rehabilitation of several key routes that are vital for connectivity and economic activities in the region. Some of the major roads earmarked for maintenance include the 8.43-kilometer Fashola Farm Settlement road and the 37-kilometer Alako/Idi-Iya/Batake/Olowa Farm Settlement road. Additionally, the 22-kilometer Oloko/Oyo Junction and Ikere roads plan to undergo significant improvements, highlighting the government’s focus on regional roadway networks that support agricultural and local commuter needs.

This initiative reflects the Oyo State Government's strategy to enhance road infrastructure, which is pivotal in fostering economic development and mobility in the state. With the commitment to maintain these roads, there is potential for increased agricultural productivity and improved transportation of goods and services, which could ultimately boost the local economy and the quality of life for residents. The procurement of 100 new vehicles is expected to support these infrastructure projects and enhance various governmental operations in Oyo State.
