Media: Terrorist groups in the Middle East suspected of building a tunnel from Belarus to Poland
Polish authorities have received intelligence suggesting that Middle Eastern terrorist groups may be involved in the construction of a secret tunnel leading from Belarus to Poland for migrant crossings.
Polish authorities have reported receiving new information about possible secret tunnel builders who facilitated the illegal crossing of at least 180 migrants from Belarus into Poland last December. According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, Polish border guards apprehended most of the migrants and subsequently closed the tunnel. An investigation has been initiated to uncover how the tunnel was constructed, leading to speculation about the expertise required for such a project.
Experts consulted by The Telegraph now suspect that groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, or ISIS may be linked to the tunnelโs construction. Polish officials have indicated that the individuals responsible for designing and excavating the tunnel possessed high-level knowledge and skills, suggesting that only a few specialized teams could create such tunnels. Military experts emphasize that the known groups capable of building advanced tunnels in the Middle East include Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, certain factions in Kurdistan, and potentially ISIS.
This situation highlights the potential involvement of terrorist organizations in facilitating illegal migration routes, raising concerns about security implications for Poland and the broader European region. The possible collaboration between these groups and local operatives in Belarus adds complexity to the ongoing migrant crisis and the challenges faced by European authorities in managing border control and immigration policies.
