Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs will welcome Czech President Petr Pavel and his wife Eva for an official state visit on March 10 and 11. This visit will focus on discussions regarding the bilateral relations between Latvia and the Czech Republic, enhancing cooperation in defense, regional security issues, and the transatlantic relationship. A significant part of their agenda includes addressing the ongoing war waged by Russia against Ukraine and the support that Ukraine requires to combat Russian aggression.
During the visit, a press conference featuring both presidents is scheduled for March 10 at 11:20 AM at the Riga Castle, where they will likely outline the outcomes of their discussions. Besides the press conference, President Pavel is set to meet with Prime Minister Evika Siliņa and Deputy Speaker of the Saeima Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševiča to strengthen ties between the governments of the two countries. In addition to formal meetings, the two presidents will also pay tribute to those who fought for freedom by laying flowers at the Freedom Monument and will inaugurate the Latvia-Czech Business Forum at the Latvian Occupation Museum.
On March 11, the agenda includes a visit to the Ādaži military base, highlighting the defense collaboration aspect of their discussions. Furthermore, President Pavel and his wife will visit Bauska Castle, showcasing Sweden’s cultural and historical ties with Latvia. This visit underscores the importance of diplomatic relations within the context of contemporary European security dynamics, particularly against the backdrop of increasing tensions due to the conflict in Ukraine.
