Identified possible ice drift start; special equipment deployed in three districts

Authorities in Lithuania have developed an action plan for potential flooding, with special equipment already deployed in three districts.

The head of the National Crisis Management Center, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, announced that a plan of action for possible flooding across Lithuania was approved during a government meeting on Wednesday. This plan includes clear instructions for institutions and outlines response phases where specific actions will be activated depending on the situation. Key to this preparedness is effective communication and cooperation with local municipalities, particularly those located in areas identified as potential flood zones.

Renatas Požėla, the director of the Fire and Rescue Department, urged residents to download the lt72.lt application, which provides crucial information regarding potential floods and water levels in various locations. Approximately 160,000 Lithuanians have already downloaded this application, indicating a proactive approach among citizens to stay informed. The emphasis on technology as a means of enhancing public awareness further highlights the need for community preparedness in the face of natural disasters.

The Fire and Rescue Department has also prepared measures to manage flooding effectively. In three municipalities - Šilutės, Pagėgių, and Klaipėdos - special equipment has already been deployed to minimize response times in the event of flooding. The department is equipped with boats and other necessary resources, demonstrating a robust readiness to tackle any challenges that arise from potential flooding, thus prioritizing the safety and well-being of the affected communities across the nation.
