Two separate midnight fires in Anambra State destroyed several shops and buildings, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.

In the early hours of Tuesday and Wednesday, two significant fire incidents occurred in Awka, Anambra State, specifically at the Nwafor Plaza and Igiligi Lane. The first outbreak at Nwafor Plaza began at approximately 11:05 pm on Tuesday, quickly consuming four shops before the fire service arrived to manage the situation. Eyewitnesses suggest that a power surge caused this blaze, occurring shortly after electricity was restored in the area.

The second fire incident at Igiligi Lane was reported around 12:08 am on Wednesday, with the cause still under investigation. Although the flames damaged several properties, there were no casualties reported in either incident, which is a relief for the local community. The swift response from the state fire service was crucial in preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings, thus reducing potential further losses.

These fires have raised concerns about fire safety in commercial areas of Anambra State, particularly regarding the electrical systems in use. Local business owners are urged to review their safety protocols and check for any fire hazards to prevent future incidents. Community members are also reminded to report any unusual electrical activity to prevent another fire outbreak.
