A driver was arrested for drug trafficking on BR-153 in Araguaína, Tocantins, with over 700 kg of narcotics discovered in his truck cabin by the Federal Highway Police (PRF).

In a significant drug trafficking bust, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) apprehended a driver on BR-153 in Araguaína, northern Tocantins, with 700 kg of illegal drugs concealed in his truck's cabin. The arrest took place on the night of October 24, when authorities intercepted the vehicle at kilometer 160 of the highway. The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, is suspected to be part of a trafficking network that allegedly transports narcotics to northeastern Brazil.

During the inspection, police found the drugs hidden in cardboard boxes and backpacks within the cabin, revealing a complex smuggling operation. The seizure included 610 kg of marijuana, 88 kg of cocaine paste, and 136 amphetamine tablets. Following the discovery, the driver was arrested and charged with drug trafficking, highlighting the ongoing struggle against drug-related crimes in Brazil’s transport network.

This incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in combating the drug trade in Brazil, particularly along major highways known for being trafficking routes. The PRF's actions aim to disrupt these networks and prevent drugs from reaching their intended destinations, which often contribute to broader issues of drug abuse and crime in the region.
