Lebanon: Mechanism Committee Meets and Warnings for Hezbollah Against Intervening Regarding Iran
The Lebanese Mechanism Committee meets for the seventeenth time amid ongoing Israeli violations, with discussions centered on military developments in Southern Lebanon.
On Wednesday, Lebanon's Mechanism Committee, responsible for overseeing the ceasefire, conducted its seventeenth meeting at the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura. This meeting comes in the context of continuous Israeli violations and assaults in the region. The committee, established in November 2024, aims to monitor developments related to the ceasefire agreement and evaluate military and operational scenarios in Southern Lebanon.
The Mechanism Committee is a trilateral framework comprising representatives from Lebanon, Israel, and UNIFIL, under American and French sponsorship. This meeting marks a significant moment, as it seeks to address ongoing tensions and provide a platform for dialogue between the conflicting parties. The last meeting took place in December, where military officers and two civilian representatives from both Lebanon and Israel were present to discuss crucial security issues.
The U.S. embassy in Beirut has set dates for subsequent Mechanism meetings in February, March, and April, emphasizing that these gatherings will serve as a principal forum for military coordination among the participating entities. Furthermore, the Lebanese army reported that Israeli soldiers recently fired in the vicinity of Naqoura, prompting calls for a military response from its forces, further escalating the ongoing tensions in the region.
