The Lithuanian Supreme Court has concluded a case against several defendants involved in environmental violations related to a significant fire at a tire recycling company in Alytus.
The Lithuanian Supreme Court recently finalized the case associated with a major fire at the tire recycling company in Alytus. J. Cicėnas was convicted for multiple environmental protection violations, including negligence leading to the destruction and damage of property, as well as document forgery. He received a consolidated prison sentence of three years and three months, with the execution of the sentence postponed for two years. This ruling highlights the strict legal consequences for environmental infractions in Lithuania.
Additionally, the companies UAB 'Ekologistika' and UAB 'Vivatrans' faced severe penalties for breaching environmental protection regulations. They were found to have stored over 4000 tons of tires, significantly exceeding the allowed limit of 1920 tons, and some of these tires were improperly housed in facilities owned by UAB 'Vivatrans'. As a result, both companies received a substantial fine of 500,000 Euros each, stressing the importance of compliance with environmental standards.
The fire incident not only showcases the environmental dangers posed by improper waste storage but also serves as a warning for other businesses regarding strict regulations and the potential consequences of non-compliance.
