Surprise move from Finnish rally champion – Reeta Hämäläinen out of the way of Brazilian co-driver
Finnish rally driver Emil Lindholm is set to compete in the WRC2 World Championship this year with a new Brazilian co-driver, Gabriel Morales.
Emil Lindholm, a 29-year-old Finnish rally driver, continues his participation in the WRC2 class of the World Rally Championship (WRC) in 2023. In his recent announcement, he confirmed that he will be driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 for the Toksport team. Lindholm is set to kick off his season at the Croatian Rally in April, and his competition schedule follows a structure that requires him to participate in a total of seven rallies, with the best six scores contributing to his overall points tally in the championship.
Lindholm has declared his confirmed participation in the Croatian, Canary Islands, and Finnish rallies this season, while his involvement in other remaining events is expected to be reaffirmed later. Notably, Lindholm is the reigning WRC2 champion from 2022, demonstrating his growing prominence in the rally sport. This season, he will also have a new co-driver, Gabriel Morales, a 36-year-old Brazilian who has previously competed at the World Championship level, indicating a strategic and significant change for Lindholm's team.
Morales, who resides in Finland, has the unique ability to call out instructions in Finnish, which may foster smoother communication during races. His experience is expected to assist Lindholm as they navigate the competitive landscape of this racing season. The transition to a new co-driver often impacts a team's dynamics and performance, and with Lindholm’s recent championship win, all eyes will be on them to see how well they adapt to this new partnership and whether they can continue to achieve success in the demanding WRC2 class.
