Ahead of the elections, Hungary's opposition party has increased its lead in the polls

Hungary's opposition party, Tisza, has significantly increased its lead against Fidesz in recent polls ahead of the upcoming elections.

Recent polling data shows that the opposition party Tisza has gained a notable advantage over the ruling Fidesz party, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban. According to a survey commissioned by the economic weekly HVG and conducted by Median, Tisza holds a 55% support rate among likely voters compared to Fidesz's 35%. This marks a substantial increase from previous polls, indicating a shift in public sentiment towards the opposition as the elections approach.

The increased lead reflects Tisza's growing momentum since the last survey conducted a month ago, where the party had a 4 percentage point lead among the general population and an 8 percentage point lead among voters expressing party preferences. With elections scheduled for April 12, the implications of these results suggest that if Tisza continues on this trajectory, it could pose a serious challenge to Orban's 16-year tenure in power, as the party rallies significant support from various segments of the electorate.

Party leader P. Magyar expressed optimism regarding the polling numbers, stating that they indicate a potential victory with a two-thirds majority in the upcoming election. This statement underscores Tisza's strategy as it campaigns vigorously, aiming to solidify its position as a credible alternative to the ruling government and enhance its prospects for capturing parliamentary seats in the approaching elections.
