Asahi to Resume Full Supply in April, Focusing Investment in Beer and Launching New Product 'Gold'

Asahi Beer is set to resume full product supply by April following a cyberattack that disrupted services, and they will launch a new beer product called 'Asahi Gold' on April 14.

Asahi Beer announced that it expects to resume full supply of its products by April after facing disruptions from a cyberattack that affected its systems. On April 14, the company plans to launch a new beer product named 'Asahi Gold,' made with 100% malt, as part of their strategy to concentrate investments in the beer segment while endeavoring to recover from the sales downturn. The company president, Kazuo Matsuyama, issued an apology during this announcement for the delays in communication and the inconvenience caused to customers due to the system outage.

The disruptions led to significant limitations in order processing and shipping, with sales of beer products dropping by 10% year-on-year in the October to December period. Among the products, the ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages like canned chuhai were particularly hard hit, recovering more slowly than others. Matsuyama noted that these items had previously enjoyed strong sales but have now largely disappeared from retail shelves, causing concern about consumer awareness and brand visibility.

In response to the cyberattack, Asahi Group Holdings has already restored its logistics system as of February and announced plans to enhance its security measures. This includes appointing a dedicated executive for information security and instituting new monitoring protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future. Such efforts aim to reassure consumers and stabilize the brand's market position as it ramps up promotional activities for its core product line.
