Kinki University’s Nodoguro will be exclusively sold in Ginza and Umeda as part of high-end fish farming
Kinki University will begin exclusive sales of their farmed high-end fish, Nodoguro, in Tokyo's Ginza and Osaka's Umeda districts, from February 26 to March 11.
Known for its Kinki University Tuna, Kinki University has announced the limited-time sale of another high-end fish, Nodoguro (Japanese blackthroat seaperch), at specialized fish restaurants in Tokyo's Ginza and Osaka's Umeda districts. This offering will be available from February 26 until March 11, with each venue selling only 20 dishes per day during dinner hours.
While the Nodoguro being sold is not completely farm-raised, it has been artificially hatched and raised for three years to reach approximately 20 centimeters in size. A spokesperson from Kinki University noted that the fish is particularly rich in fat, making it a delicacy worth trying. The price for each cooked Nodoguro is set at 1,800 yen, reflecting its premium status among seafood enthusiasts.
Kinki University made headlines in 2002 when it became the first in the world to achieve complete farming of Pacific bluefin tuna through artificial hatching. Recently, they have also achieved complete farming of Nodoguro, announcing plans to commercialize this species by around 2030. This innovation suggests that Kinki University continues to lead in high-end aquaculture, aiming to meet consumer demand while ensuring sustainable fish farming practices.
