Marketta was stunned: The price of the medicine rose by +400% - 'I have to use it'

Marketta, a 75-year-old Finnish woman, is shocked by the 400% price increase of her essential heart medication, now forcing her to pay significantly more.

Marketta, a 75-year-old resident of Oulu, Finland, has been using a blood-thinning medication containing apixaban for her chronic arrhythmia. During her last visit to the pharmacy, she was taken aback to find that the cheaper generic option she usually relied on was no longer available, leaving only a much more expensive alternative. The price of the medication she previously paid 14.63 euros for, which after Kela reimbursement cost her 5.12 euros, has skyrocketed to 72.17 euros for the remaining brand-name option, Eliquis. Consequently, her out-of-pocket cost has increased to 25.26 euros for a month's supply of 60 tablets, translating to a shocking nearly 400% price increase that deeply impacts her as a senior citizen who relies on multiple medications for her health.
