Two Remarks on the Surveys / Why PS is Falling and KDH is at Risk

Recent surveys indicate a decline in support for the Progressive Slovakia party, while other opposition parties are seeing growth.

Recent polls from Focus, NMS, and IPSOS indicate a decline in the popularity of Progressive Slovakia (PS), confirming a trend that, while not definitive due to the distance from elections, raises concerns within the party. This decrease in support does not suggest a loss of voters for the opposition as a whole; rather, voters appear to be switching between various opposition parties, with PS losing ground to Hnutie Slovensko, SaS, and the Democrats. Although there is no immediate reason for panic within PS, leadership must question the underlying issues affecting their popularity.

The controversy involving Marta Šimečková's association has yet to significantly impact the timing of the surveys, but its potential effect on public perception and party support cannot be overlooked. The association's issues will likely hinder PS's polling numbers moving forward. Although it remains uncertain if the decision to address the Beneš decrees directly harmed the party, it has clearly failed to resonate with southern Slovak voters, contrary to what PS may have hoped.

As the elections draw closer, PS must analyze the causes of their declining numbers. With other parties benefiting from shifting voter preferences, the ongoing challenges and controversies surrounding PS could lead to a more competitive political landscape, potentially jeopardizing their previous standing in Slovak politics. Strategic adjustments by PS will be necessary to re-engage their base and recapture lost support as the political environment evolves.
