Residents in Lavara, Soufli, were warned through the emergency number 112 about the overflowing waters of the Evros River, as the situation in the region continues to remain problematic. Early on Tuesday morning, a dam in the Amorio area broke, leading to extensive flooding in the agricultural lands of Amorio, Kissario, and Lavara. Authorities convened a local coordinating body to address the crisis and decided to close all access points along the vertical road axis due to the escalating conditions.

On February 24th, the community officials advised residents living near the road to exercise caution throughout the night and offered sandbags to prevent further flooding in critical areas. As the water levels in the Evros River rise, the flooding is expected to worsen in the southern part of the region, where the water must pass before reaching the sea. The flow of the river is not proceeding smoothly due to the excessive amounts of water, causing it to spread more widely and exacerbate the flooding problem further down the river.
