The municipality of Vassouras has declared a state of emergency as a result of heavy rainfall that has affected the area significantly since January. The announcement was made on Tuesday, January 24, highlighting the urgent need for response measures following the devastating effects of the rains. According to the Civil Defense Agency of Vassouras, approximately 1,200 residents have been impacted by the flooding across 10 neighborhoods and three districts.

Major damages include landslides on the RJ-115 highway, which connects Vassouras to Valença, completely blocking the road and severely affecting the Barão de Vassouras neighborhood. Additionally, flooding has been reported along Avenida Marechal Paulo Torres and several other critical points, with rainfall accumulation reaching 309 mm in January and 201 mm in February so far. The situation has become increasingly dire, prompting local authorities to take significant action to manage the disaster and provide aid to those affected.

The declaration of a state of emergency facilitates the implementation of exceptional administrative measures, enhancing the government's capacity to respond effectively to the crisis.
